Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA)

Also called Temporal Arteritis, is a life-threatening condition requiring immediate intervention. There is inflamation on the artery wall near the temple, scalp, head, neck and arms become inflamed restricting blood flow through the vessels. If you have any of the following symptoms, see your doctor immediately.

  • Headache
  • Bluring or darkening of vision
  • Difficulty chewing or speaking (fatigue or pain in the tongue or jaw)
  • Fever
  • Sweats
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Weight Loss
  • Pain or stiffness in the shoulders or hips

Early diagnosis and treatment with is very effective with pain relief within two days and and in preventing impending and irreversible blindness.
